Patzcuaro Lake is about 200 miles/300 km from the coast, but the archeological sites near the lake are what attracted me to it. Getting here for a day trip from the coast is not possible as the drive in a private vehicle is seven hours; public transportation takes longer. An overnight stay should be planned. There are a few places in the village of Patzcuaro and a small hotel on the island of Janitzio.
