By Taxi
Taxis to and from the airport are $20 from Zihua and $22 from Ixtapa for up to four persons. Taxis in town are 1.50 minimum and between the two towns run about $5 one way. To reserve or hire a taxi for the day, 'fr 755-554-3680, 554-4583 or 554-3311. Small vans also do the airport runs and cost $6.50 to Zihua and $7.50 to Ixtapa.
By Bus
The bus station is 1.5 miles/two km from Zihuatanejo center. Estrella de Oro and Estrella Blanco offer first-class trips throughout the state of Guerrero. Taxis outside the station cost $2 for the trip into town. The Monacas Express, Calle Rube #6, 'fr 800-685-7575, has direct service to Uruapan and Morelia. Local buses are great for getting around and cost far less than taxis. They are also far more interesting. Around town or to the beaches just north or south of town, the cost is 50?.
By Car
Remember, if someone in the left turn lane is signaling to the right, it probably means that they want you to pass them on the right. This is common practice in Mexico.
WARNING: Be aware that the isolated high- ways in this area are dangerous due to highway bandits. Also, farm animals, pedestrians, cy- clists and potholes are common on secondary roads and cannot be seen once darkness falls. Stay off the highways at night.
